What is Peer?

Peer (peer.xyz) is a peer-to-peer crypto marketplace and payment protocol, formerly known as ZKP2P. It lets you buy and sell crypto using payment apps you already have — Venmo, PayPal, Revolut, Cash App, Zelle, Wise, and more — with no middleman in between. Payments are verified by zero-knowledge proofs, funds stay non-custodial in onchain escrow, and crypto is released directly to your own wallet, typically within 2-5 minutes. Peer is built on Base by P2P Labs Inc.

Peer was previously ZKP2P

If you're searching for ZKP2P: it's the same protocol. ZKP2P rebranded to Peer, and zkp2p.xyz now redirects to peer.xyz. The name came from the core mechanism — zero-knowledge peer-to-peer — and that mechanism hasn't changed. What changed is the name and the surface area: the Peer app lives at app.peer.xyz, the docs at docs.peer.xyz, and the protocol's open-source code remains at github.com/zkp2p.

How Peer works

Sellers lock crypto in onchain escrow and name their price. Buyers pick an offer and pay the seller directly through a payment app — there is no exchange or custodian in the middle. Peer then generates a zero-knowledge proof of the payment: it confirms the amount, recipient, and timestamp without revealing bank details, transaction history, or personal information. Once the proof is verified, the escrow releases the crypto to the buyer's wallet.

Because verification is cryptographic rather than institutional, no additional identity verification is required beyond connecting a wallet — you use the payment accounts you already have.

How Peer is different from an exchange

Peer is a marketplace, not an exchange, broker, or custodian. It never holds, controls, or transmits user funds: sellers self-custody until escrow, escrow is an onchain smart contract, and buyers receive crypto directly in their own wallets. Prices are set by the market of peers rather than by a company. Peer applies up to a 0.95% base taker service fee to orders, reduced by taker-tier discounts; if you bridge to another chain, a 0.5% bridge fee also applies.
